CHESTNUT RIDGE TRAIL
This is a great downhill trail! A really fun ride that will test your abilities and your nerve. A friend of mine who came up from Atlanta declared that this was the first trail that he has ever had to use 2 fingers on his V- Brakes! This trail is blazed with YELLOW TRIANGLES.
From Shaws Gap the Chestnut Ridge Trail goes north. It is the only trail that is not listed on the sign at Shaw's Gap and is blazed with yellow triangles.
Take this trail as it starts off descending through some nice smooth singletrack. You will go through some high banked stretches that I call the "half-pipe".
You will come to a wet area and cross a small creek. Cross this creek and you have a short climb. Just enough time to get your act together for what is about to come!
You will come to the top of this climb and the trail starts to descend again. (There is a trail that goes left at the top of this climb, dont take it as it is a dead end). Hold on!
You will descend along the very narrow side of the mountain. Keep focused on where you need to be on the trail. One slip and its over the side of the mountain!
You come off the side of the mountain and go through a winding stretch with many tight turns.
Near the end, you will ride through a creek bed. Good place to practice your trials skills! Follow the yellow triangles to the end where you will come to FR 615.
Clean out your shorts here.
Turn left on this road to get back to Rush Trail, FR 90 and Iron Mountain Trail (about 3 miles).
