Wright Hollow / Buzzard Den Loop - New 7/17/97

Note from the USFS: Road work is ongoing on the Wright Hollow Trail. There will be a timber sale in there after road work is completed & log trucks will use the troad (trail & road). None of the cutting will occur along trail, most cutting will be on south side of creek. In fact, a bridge will be built across creek & troad continued to access timber. We are working on keeping bridge in place & connecting up the Clark Mountain Trail using this new timber road. This old trail is about gone, but perhaps we could get it open again. It would allow a nice loop connecting Beech Grove Troad to Wright Hollow Troad.

This ride starts at the intersection of Feathercamp Ridge Trail/Sawmill Trail//Wright Hollow Trail. This is a very technical trail with lots of big rocks and some really great climbing coming back up. You can also ride this one off Sawmill Trail to Buzzard Den to Wright Hollow Trail coming out at the "mud pit" at the intersection of Feathercamp Ridge Trail. Take some spare tubes with you! This is around 5(+or-) miles total (my computer got out of line, sorry!)
UPDATE: This one may be better ridden Buzzard Den to Wright Hollow. It's easier to find your way and Buzzard Den is an unbelievable down hill! Expect some Hike-A-Bike on Wright Hollow.

Start at sign at Feathercamp Ridge Trail/Sawmill Trail//Wright Hollow Trail intersection and go left down Wright Hollow. The trail is marked with yellow squares at the beginning. The trail starts off as a smooth and sweet gentle downhill. Great forest here!

Soon the trail runs into a very rocky creek. Just keep going straight (walk if you can't ride these rocks) all the way until you come to an intersection. Go right at the trail intersection (left comes out to a field eventually and out of the MRNRA to private property). You will see the remains of an old gate on your left, proceed straight and this turns into Forest Road #287. I don't think it is marked. Nice rolling downhill.

Go about 1.5 miles from the last intersection and you will see a trail, marked with yellow triangles, that goes up to the left. Look hard for it as it is in a curve and is tricky to find. It starts climbing almost immediately. Stay on this trail about 1.5 miles (climbing with one very steep walk-up part). You will eventually come back out on Sawmill Trail. It is marked with a sign.

Ride the Sawmill left to FR 615, or take Sawmill right to Feathercamp Ridge Trail and ride the race course out backwards!

Are your legs burning?
