Where to Eat
There are several places to eat around Damascus that you should know about. Since the Zagat Restaurant Review hasnt done Damascus yet, Ill do it for them. My Ohio Brother-In -Law will appreciate these reviews also, as he shares my love for the "more relaxed and informal" type of dining.
Damascus Old Mill
The Damascus Old Mill is just what we needed in Damascus! The Damascus Old Mill has a huge selection of lunch and dinner entrées that are sure to please the most discerning appetite. Finally a place where you can go get a really fine burger, Rueben (my favorite) wings, trout and one of the best Rib eye Steaks I've ever eaten...anywhere! The setting is in the renovated grist mill that has stood as a Damascus land mark for 100+ years. The dining room windows overlook the mill- dam waterfall and face the cliffs of the opposite river bank. This is a really fine place to do some bird watching while you eat. The outside decks are a fine place to enjoy the atmosphere and feeding the ducks from the deck is a must, especially for small children.
The Damascus Old Mill is a smoke-free,
come-as-you-are place where you will feel comfortable coming right off the trail
in biking/hiking attire (after all, we are a Trail Town) so don't be shy. They
have a tremendous selection of domestic and imported beer and wine, oh, and
check out the really funky Trail Town bar and art work too!
The Damascus Old Mill is the place I use for food and lodging on night three of my Eco-Tours with The Nature Conservancy. I wouldn't use anyplace that is "half-done" and I wouldn't recommend anyplace like that to my friends or family. I would however recommend the Damascus Old Mill to anybody who enjoys great food and really cool atmosphere. Don't waste your time looking elsewhere eating grease soaked, out-of-a-microwave junk when you can get freshly prepared, quality fare at reasonable prices.

Dots Inn

"All Good Trails Lead To Dot's"
Burgers, chicken tenders, awesome breakfasts, homemade soups, real salads, plate dinners, very reasonable prices, video poker and a real bar (just beer). What else is there? Jerome swears "this place is righteous!" and he recommends the "hairy dog salad with fromunda cheese". I ate here again recently and it was really very good. When I was riding in Spain, I thought that they were the fried food masters. But Dot has mastered the art of the golden fried entree as well. If she were to use olive oil, she would be on a par with the best that Andalusia has to offer! Wear your spandex and gaudiest bike jersey and "get noticed" by the locals. Dot gave me her personal assurance that she doesn't take any crap from anybody and that she'd watch out for me when I'm in there. Guess I'll be eating here more often. She has a part-time bartender named "POT" but I don't know what that's all about. I was in here one time and there was a guy who looked half dead playing the guitar singing "Red necks, white socks and Blue Ribbon beer" so I guess you could say they have live entertainment (or kinda live) but I don't think it is scheduled. Ask for Roger and buy him a beer and just maybe he'll sing for you. Dot has added a pistachio vending machine for you muckety mucks who are to darn good to eat "reglar 'ol salty nuts". Believe me, this is a nice change because Dot's has plenty of salty nuts. You gotta eat here!
